Do Not As I Do
It amazes me. There are several people on the Right trying to use that latest terrorist plot to make political points. Sometimes they even outright lie about what the President has been doing, like stating that he isn't using the word "terror". The funny thing is, that some of those people that are in charge of our anti-terrorism efforts are hold-overs from the Bush administration.
Can you imagine if the Left had criticized Bush for taking 6 days to respond to the "Shoe Bomber"? The Right would have labeled them unpatriotic or un-American. The Right keep telling us how they kept us safe for all of those years, yet they fail to mention the near success of the Shoe Bomber, the DC Snipers (domestic terrorism is still terrorism) or those unsolved anthrax attacks.
They also fail to mention 9/11. One could argue that 9/11 was too soon into the adminstration to really put a lot of blame squarely on their heads, but it really is hard to ignore the PDB stating that Bin Laden was about to attack in that manner. So, even if you disregard that, you can trace back where 9/11 began and that was with the end of the Soviet-Afghan War. We set up the conflict there to destabilize Soviet control link and then when it was over, we left. We pulled our support and left the war ravaged country to fend for itself. You know when that war ended? 1988. Who was President then?
Reagan.
Yeah, the guy that said "Gorbachev, tear down this wall" and is somehow given credit for the collapse of the USSR by just strength of that statement. If that's the case, he should also get credit for abandoning the Afghans and leading us down the path that led to 9/11.
It's almost as if the Right thinks that we can't look stuff up. Can't do a simple Google search. That we still live in the 3 network TV station era. That just because they say it, it must be true. I think that they think that we can't learn from history.
Just remember Carl Rove's strategy of taking your opponents greatest strength and use it against them. It also parallels using your greatest weakness against them. If you don't think that it's effective, just see how they are attacking Obama for taking 72 hours to respond, where it took Bush twice as long and then only in passing.
And as I said before, if anyone had criticized Bush for taking so long, they would have been branded traitors. If you don't believe that, just see what happened to the Dixie Chicks after they criticized Bush. When the Right does it to Obama (who's still Commander-in-Chief of two wars), it's freedom of speech, which it is, but awfully hypocritical.
